Inclusion and Belonging

Musae strives to create an ensemble and a community that is inclusive of and welcoming to all people. The world of classical and choral music has historically been a place for white, male people, and we want to help to change that. As such, we are committed to examining our own biases and creating structures within our organization to help create more inclusion, equity, and a greater sense of belonging, not only for the singers who perform as Musae, but also for our audiences and within our broader communities.

To work toward this goal, we have defined three areas where we can focus our efforts:

  • Our artistic programming

  • Our internal communication

  • Our broader community

More details on goals and action-items in these three areas are available upon request from our Artistic Director. We recognize that this is constant, ongoing work, and that we need to be engaging with it regularly. Thus, we also commit to re-examining this plan regularly to ensure that it continues to support and inform what we strive to do: make our corner of the world an inclusive and belonging place.
